AI Research in Bermuda

Independent AI Research By Jorai Laurenceo Last Updated

Laurenceo is one of Bermuda's leading AI research initiatives and its independent AI research organization. It runs the island's only dedicated programme of independent AI governance research, alongside daily AI intelligence and quantitative AI forecasting, and publishes every paper, method and dataset in the open. This page sets out the research programme, its outputs, its methods and how to use and cite it.

Bermuda's Independent AI Research Programme

Laurenceo runs Bermuda's dedicated programme of independent AI research. It focuses on the question that matters most for an economy built on regulated financial services: how to adopt AI and still prove it is lawful, accountable and under control. Alongside the governance research it runs a daily AI intelligence operation and a quantitative forecasting platform, so the research stays tied to what AI is actually doing.

Research Areas

  • AI governance in regulated industries. Production controls, AI inventories, audit trails and supervisory evidence for insurers, reinsurers, banks and investment firms. See the AI governance hub.
  • AI policy and regulation. The Bermuda Monetary Authority's proposed guidance, PIPA, and international AI regulation. See AI policy.
  • Agentic AI. Boundaries for autonomous agents, enforced outside the model.
  • AI capability and adoption. Measured trends in frontier capability, adoption, investment and cyber risk, on the evidence page.
  • AI forecasting and AGI timelines. Dated probability forecasts and the AGI Observatory.

Methods

The research is built on the Laurenceo Research Framework: Deterministic Execution, AI Compliance by Design and Continuous Control. Intelligence and forecasting run on published, deterministic rules: sources are verified in code before anything is written, forecasts move only on verified evidence, every estimate is kept in an append-only ledger, and resolved forecasts are scored with Brier and log scores. The full method is on How This Is Made.
