OpenAI releases GPT-6 Cyber to vetted customers and rates it 'Critical' for cyber capability
Bermuda-based cyber underwriters should treat this as a repricing signal: a gated model that can find and exploit zero-days at this scale compresses the time between discovery and exploitation across the software they insure. Security teams everywhere need shorter patch cycles for widely deployed open-source and browser code, and insurers should watch how access to such tools is governed and audited. The next test is whether comparable capability reaches ungated or rival models.
What Happened
OpenAI classified GPT-6 Cyber as Critical under its Preparedness Framework, its highest cyber risk tier. The model is initially available through the API and Codex only to a select group of approved Daybreak Red customers, who are authorised to use it for offensive security work. OpenAI researchers used it to find 81 previously unknown high-severity Firefox vulnerabilities, which Mozilla has started fixing, and to help develop working exploits for 948 Linux kernel vulnerabilities.
Why It Matters
Bermuda-based cyber underwriters should treat this as a repricing signal: a gated model that can find and exploit zero-days at this scale compresses the time between discovery and exploitation across the software they insure. Security teams everywhere need shorter patch cycles for widely deployed open-source and browser code, and insurers should watch how access to such tools is governed and audited. The next test is whether comparable capability reaches ungated or rival models.
The Bermuda Angle
Bermuda-based re/insurers that underwrite cyber risk may need to revisit exposure and accumulation assumptions as AI-driven exploit development becomes more capable. No Bermuda-specific action is reported.
