CISA adds exploited WordPress Core race-condition flaw CVE-2026-119977 to KEV catalog

Cybersecurity Laurenceo Intelligence CISA · United States

An exploited flaw in WordPress core turns routine CMS maintenance into an immediate patching task for any organisation with a public website, whether or not it is bound by the federal directive. Marketing, communications and managed hosting teams are the most exposed because these sites often sit outside central IT patch cycles. Security leaders should confirm today which sites run WordPress, who owns them and how quickly core updates can be applied.

What Happened

CISA added CVE-2026-119977, a WordPress Core time-of-check time-of-use race condition vulnerability, to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on the basis of evidence of active exploitation. Under BOD 26-04, federal civilian agencies must prioritise rapid remediation of KEV-listed vulnerabilities on publicly exposed assets that grant total control after exploitation. CISA encourages all organisations to adopt risk-based vulnerability management and prioritise KEV remediation.
