AI Jobs, Skills and Training in Bermuda

Careers Guide By Jorai Laurenceo Last Updated

AI is already part of working life in Bermuda: nearly six in ten employed residents use it for work at least weekly, and 62% believe jobs are at risk. This Laurenceo guide covers the debate over AI and Bermudian jobs, the careers AI is creating in Bermuda's economy, and every AI course and training programme available on the island in 2026.

What Bermudians Think About AI and Work

A survey of 248 adult residents by Narrative Research Bermuda, fielded between 5 December 2025 and 4 January 2026, found (Bernews):

FindingResult
Employed residents using AI for work at least weeklyNearly six in ten
Residents using AI for personal purposes at least weeklyHalf
Believe jobs are at risk because of AI62%
Believe AI needs to be regulated78%

The survey used an online panel, so no margin of error applies. See Bermuda AI Statistics for every published figure.

Will AI Take Jobs in Bermuda?

The honest answer is that nobody has measured it for Bermuda, and the published estimates disagree:

  • In June 2026, Opposition leader Ben Smith said the Government had not prepared for AI's effect on Bermudian jobs, pointing to the island's reliance on professional services, international business and administrative roles (Bernews).
  • The OBA's Vance Campbell cited estimates that 2 to 5% of Bermuda's jobs could be lost to automation in the near term (Bernews).
  • Bermuda Clarity Institute founder Stuart Lacey has said some jobs, perhaps 10 to 20%, will be lost to AI, while calling "job apocalypse" framing scaremongering.

What is clear is where the exposure sits. Bermuda's economy is weighted towards exactly the work generative AI touches first: document-heavy administration, compliance, finance, insurance operations and professional services.

Starting an AI Career in Bermuda

Bermuda's AI jobs are mostly inside insurers, reinsurers, banks, regulators and service firms rather than AI labs. The strongest routes:

  1. AI governance and risk. Every BMA-regulated firm needs people who can build AI inventories, assess materiality and evidence controls under the BMA's AI guidance.
  2. Data and analytics. Actuarial, catastrophe modelling and pricing teams increasingly use machine learning.
  3. Automation and AI engineering. Integrating AI into workflows safely, with PIPA-compliant data handling.
  4. Domain expert plus AI. Underwriters, lawyers and accountants who can direct and check AI tools.

For Employers

Using AI in hiring, monitoring or performance decisions brings employment, human rights and privacy law into play. Read AI and the Law in Bermuda and PIPA and AI before deploying AI on staff.

Laurenceo's View

Bermuda should prepare rather than react. That means measuring AI's effect on Bermudian jobs with real data, training at scale for the roles that grow, and making AI governance a recognised profession on the island. Laurenceo publishes its research free so that any Bermudian can learn the governance discipline the BMA now expects.
