Amazon Web Services
Every development involving Amazon Web Services covered by Laurenceo Intelligence, the daily AI intelligence briefing published in Bermuda: what happened, sourced to the original reporting and announcements, why it matters for organisations and markets, and how it connects to Financial Markets, Infrastructure and Data Centres and Compute.

What Is Amazon Web Services?
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the cloud computing arm of Amazon, based in the United States. It sells on-demand computing, storage, database and artificial intelligence services to businesses, governments and developers.
AWS is best known as one of the largest providers of cloud infrastructure, running the data centres on which many organisations host their applications and AI workloads. Its scale makes its capacity plans and policies a reference point for the wider technology and energy sectors.
Amazon Web Services Now
AWS revenue rose 39% in the third quarter, and Amazon expects 2026 capital expenditure of about $220 billion 1. CEO Andy Jassy projected AWS growth above 40% in both 2027 and 2028 1. Separately, AWS said it no longer uses nondisclosure agreements with government agencies on data centre projects, and it committed to covering utility upgrade costs so residents' bills do not rise, along with a $1 billion community investment programme 2. The move followed an investigation launched by a US Representative into NDA use by several hyperscalers, and AWS warned that more than 100 data centre moratoriums are under consideration in the US 2.
Amazon Web Services and Bermuda
Bermuda insurers and reinsurers that run catastrophe modelling, claims or underwriting systems on AWS should assess their dependence on a single cloud provider as capacity expands. The Bermuda Monetary Authority expects regulated firms to govern AI and outsourced technology with clear accountability, so concentration risk and data handling should be documented. Local organisations that depend on AWS should also watch regional availability and the terms the provider sets as its build-out proceeds.
