BMA publishes long-term insurers' Asset and Liability Statements publicly for the first time
Disclosure shifts scrutiny of Bermuda's life and annuity sector from private supervisory dialogue to public analysis, so asset composition and liability profiles will now be compared by investors, rating analysts and counterparties. Insurers with complex or illiquid asset mixes should prepare clear explanations before outside readers draw their own conclusions. Watch the BMA's forthcoming terms and any fees, which will determine how widely the data is used.
What Happened
The Bermuda Monetary Authority has put Asset and Liability Statements for Bermuda's commercial long-term insurers on its public website for the first time. The statements come from insurers' year-end 2025 filings. BMA CEO Craig Swan called it a milestone in the enhanced public disclosure framework. Initial access is free, users complete a short survey for each statement, and the BMA will announce terms and any fees later.
