ISG study for Bermuda-based mea finds 86% of insurers would rework outsourcing deals for AI

Insurance Technology Laurenceo Intelligence mea / ISG · Bermuda

The study was commissioned by a vendor with a commercial interest in the outcome, but the direction is credible: outsourcing contracts priced on headcount are coming under pressure where AI can perform the same work. Insurers approaching renewals should model AI-adjusted pricing, require measurable automation commitments, and clarify who is accountable for errors made by AI-driven processes. Regulators will expect oversight of outsourced activities to extend to the AI tools providers use.

What Happened

A study by ISG for mea, an insurance-focused agentic AI company domiciled and headquartered in Bermuda, found that 86 per cent of insurance buyers of outsourced operations would renegotiate for AI efficiency, or completely rework terms and service levels, if their contracts were renewed today. The survey covered 150 insurance decision makers in August 2026, spanning primary carriers, brokers, MGAs and reinsurers in North America, Europe and Asia. AI-led innovation fell below expectations for 49 per cent of business process outsourcing users.
