ILS Bermuda Convergence warned of investor overexposure to AI and data centre risk

Insurance Risk Laurenceo Intelligence Nuveen · Bermuda

Re/insurers and ILS investors can be exposed to the AI build-out through property and casualty underwriting, through investment portfolios and through counterparties, and these exposures may move together. Stress testing that looks at underwriting and investments separately can miss that correlation. A practical step is to map AI and data centre exposure across the whole balance sheet in a single view.

What Happened

Speakers at the ILS Bermuda Convergence conference warned that investors could become overexposed to related or identical artificial intelligence risks. Joe Pursley, head of insurance distribution for the Americas at Nuveen, said portfolios need to guard against redundant thematic concentration in AI and data centre infrastructure, a risk he described as underappreciated.
