Open-weight model
Definition
An open-weight model is an AI model whose trained parameters are published so that anyone can download, run and modify it, as opposed to models available only through a provider's service.
Why It Matters
Open weights lower cost and dependency on vendors but remove the provider's ability to monitor or restrict misuse.
