BMA updates guidance for segregated and separate account general business insurers
A fixed effective date gives SAC insurers, their managers and service providers a defined period to compare current governance, risk management and reporting arrangements against the revised note. Gaps are cheaper to close before the date than after supervisory engagement begins.
What Happened
The Bermuda Monetary Authority published an updated guidance note for general business insurers that use segregated accounts and separate accounts (SAC insurers). The note covers licensing, waivers and modifications, governance expectations, risk management practices and reporting requirements. The requirements take effect on 1 January 2027.
Why It Matters
A fixed effective date gives SAC insurers, their managers and service providers a defined period to compare current governance, risk management and reporting arrangements against the revised note. Gaps are cheaper to close before the date than after supervisory engagement begins.
