AI governance
Definition
AI governance is the set of policies, roles, controls and oversight an organisation uses to make sure the AI systems it builds or buys are lawful, safe, fair and accountable. It covers who approves a system, how risks are assessed, how performance is monitored and who answers when something goes wrong.
Why It Matters
Regulators increasingly expect firms to show governance in operation, not on paper. Boards remain accountable for AI decisions made by their organisations, including those of outsourced providers.
